Hello Whiteblaze! I almost forgot to post an update here. I've completed the Appalachian Trail and it was outstanding! Thanks to this forum and the members for all the valuable information I used to...
Hello Whiteblaze! We head into the 100 mile wilderness tomorrow morning. Almost to Katahdin! What an amazing time I've had. I've continued to meet so many great people on this trail, and I've already...
Hello WhiteBlaze! Reporting in from Waynesboro, VA. I leave out of here tomorrow and enter Shenandoah. The last 800 or so miles have been a lot of fun. The first 400 were incredible and hard working,...
I've added this to my notes. And I plan on starting tomorrow morning before sunrise at the arches at Amicalola and taking the stairs on my way to Springer. Thanks for all the advice guys. I just...
This is a great piece of advice!
This is horrible news. I guess TVA isn't able to properly patrol the lots. I heard many of the facilities around the area are shut down to to short staff.
From what I understand, those upper lots are mostly empty much of the time. The shelter is the only thing nearby, and it's not really that close either.
Technically, you're right, but he's also not in a prison cell, and he is free of the murder charge.
Thanks for the support everyone. All great advice! I'm not too hung up on miles and won't pass up any unique opportunities should one arise. I'll definitely be hiking my own hike out there. Having...
I have a friend that lives in the area, and this has always been a safe place to park because there's usually plenty of cars and TVA patrols. I'd like to know more about the type of vehicle and where...
I start soon! Thanks to all the old vets here that have helped. I've been lurking for many years and planning for the past few. It's time. I watched YouTube explode with hikers since I started...
It might not be a popular opinion, and arguably a smart thing to do considering how whack the US justice system can be, but that girl that got all cut up from the nutjob James Jordan (that's now free...
I use a lot of their gear. I have the travel tripod, capture clip, and this phone case. All are great tools that hold up to abuse. I'm not a fanboy, I just like gear that works. I plan on using the...
My research into this found that you only need the bear vault if you plan to camp after passing through Jerrard Gap until you arrive at Neels Gap/Mountain Crossings. I've planned my day to start at...
Trail name: Maple
Direction: NOBO
Start Date: April 6
Approach Trail: Yes
Haha. I prefer the least expensive and often more rustic options myself. I have an older awol guidebook I got from a friend that listed the Budget Inn. I called for more info and found that it...
I should be passing through in April. What is everyone's opinion on the best (thru-hiker friendly) places to stay in Franklin?
I'm a ULA fan for life. There's not much to a backpack, but the things that matter ULA does above and beyond.
I've gleaned much information from you over the years Tipi. You should write a book about your travels and all the emperical knoweldge you've acquired in doing so.
Those who want to slack pack the hard sections may have a good reason to do so outside of just making the hike easier. I have more respect for hikers who do not slackpack as backpackers, but...
There's only a few places on the AT where I'd be worried about sleeping with food. In those areas I'll just hang it on a tree (not pct style or from 10ft of lawson glow) where I can reach it. So far...
Another member provided this info about these blue blazes on the bridge below Fontana Dam...
"after 9-11-01, the dam was closed to traffic in case there was going to be more terrorist attacks.......
Thanks for the photo to add some context.
Thanks for the info. Those blazes do have a hint of blue to them and have clearly faded over the years. I bet they were originally blue blazes as you mention. I'll check out the links.
Sounds just as interesting and rich as any thru hike. Congratulations!
