I want to thank everyone for their help. Made the trip last weekend and found a usable tent site right across from where the Winter Trail met the AT. Worked out fine. And the knee held up pretty...
Just want to add that if doing that section in Oct make sure to wear orange. It will be archery season then and you don't want to be confused with a deer.
Thanks for the help. Not worried about the water, should be able to carry in what we need. Been section hiking with daughter and this is area of PA we are now in. But also coming off a knee...
Looking to see if there are any tent sites once you reach the top of the climb northward out of Palmerton, PA, possibly a half mile or so from the top of the climb. Don't see any mentioned in...
Thanks for the info, hadn't thought of that. Will definitely take it under advisement. Always just figured at worst the bear would just kind of be playing tether-ball with it.
I use 500 from time to time while hiking (I like having the seat option among other things). One thing I've done is tie a length of para cord to it. One you have the cord if needed, plus you can...
Just a few notes for you. I used to just use a single hiking stick all the time, but once I tried the poles I was hooked and have only used then since.
As to hanging your food, in NJ it depends on...
Snowy Mountain Road has room for a couple cars. Just not sure about leaving a car there overnight. You might want to check out this website, has great info on AT parking. ...

To get ready to hike this year, a little over two weeks ago had a total replacement of my left knee. Today managed to twice walk a half mile (flat, paved, but a start). Hoping to be ready for at...

My daughter and I section hiked north from Elk Pen last June and one of the things I remember is the number of people camping by Island Pond, which for you would be just a little south of the Lemon...
There's always plenty of leaves available. Just saying ...
My daughter and I are planning a section hike starting in MD next week so it seems like a good time to revisit this thread. Anyone know what the current water situation is in MD and south PA? ...
The shore part of the AT along Sunfish Pond is pretty nasty for someone with leg issues. But it can be avoided by Blue Blazing it around the other side of the lake. They meet up at the far end. ...
My daughter just section hiked this part. She arrived at the Zoo 10 minutes after closing and had to do the bypass, which she found to be poorly maintained and full of poison ivy. Just a word of...
Just an update, Sunrise AT Deli is still closed.
Stayed here last night on a three day section hike. The new shelter was really nice, will hold 8 easily, more in a pinch. Privy well taken care of and bear box in great condition. There were four...
This Weds thru Fri my daughter and I are going to hike from the Mohican Center to Culver's Gap. That will complete NJ for us. That will make one state done. Then the following Sat (6/!8) we will...

Just did from Wawayanda State Park to 17A this past weekend, and there was plenty of water at all of AWOL's sources, plus some other unnamed ones.
This weekend weather is supposed to be real nice and daughter and I were both able to get off work. Going from Wawayanda SP north to NY17A. Good chance to test out her new tent.
One free resource that I have found helpful is appalachiantrail.rohland.org. This gives you a list of a lot of places to park and the mileage between them. Combined with AWOL's guide I have been...
