Like most infectious disease a mild response confers immunity. Iran and Italy have close commerce with its source ...the wuhan flu will be arrested by warm weather.

How will coronavirus affect hiking this year?

When it rains you want to be in the shelter, to get your stuff organized, platforms and tables are wonderful.
It’s the crowded sleeping conditions in the ‘bubble’.

How will coronavirus affect hiking this year?

It’s not the plague. Thru hikers have strong lung apparatus. I’ve gotten the norovivrus on one hike.
Expense goes up when incapacitated. I bet smoking rolling tobacco helps, that and fist bumps....

Sometimes the shelters are full to the max ( in rain) which may be interesting. But not what Thoreau type loners were anticipating. I’ve started in ‘07 and ‘13 from springer, finished other years....

Pooping in woods after a few weeks becomes an event.

    Gear for bug season

I think gnats get stoned, but not the bloodsuckers. A few weeks of natural skin biome seems to be effective repellent....also evening campfire smoke nice respite.

Interesting fact. Tobacco smoke drives them away. Maybe reason for peace pipe?! Dialogue sans buggy distraction. Pot smoke doesn’t work the same, but YOU may feel better.

Short pad (cut a piece off discarded sleep pads)
Put on outside of pack for easy access to sit ..resting on rocks and logs (especially when wet)

Inevitable norovirus...pooping in woods a novelty, do not shake hands..fist bump.
Decent tent with head room for days of rain..shelters very crowded, but platforms and picnic tables best for gear...

Another useful item is the neck gaiter, (multiclava) had one with an AT map once..dust, bugs, wind..the map helped with focus. Thin polyester is better than a full on winter one.

    rain kilts

Rain pants were very handy after a huge spring snow storm in the smokies twice(!) crawling under blowdowns. Also in pouring rain it’s nice to sit down on a log.

Black flies, gnats, mosquitoes can make a hike miserable. Are all head nets the same? What about other exposed areas....hands holding trekking poles?
