If I were to change from a tarp w/ bug tent, I would try this tent based on the Nomad design. I believe the Nomad was a single wall and had condensation problems but the retro design with double...

The pen is lightwight and works perfectly every time. I carry soda or water bottles which are too narrow for the pen,...
Since when does everyone always do what their momma wants? Be assertive, explain your position without argument or anger, and go hike your hike!
I've been hiking the AT for 30 years and never needed a fixed blade.
I doubt that road side vandalism has much of anything to do with the AT or the Davis Farm Campsite which is a good jaunt from any road.
RT 623 is a faily legnthy back woods road that eventually...
The gear part is one thing, but make sure you carry the data book pages, compaion book pages, and maps. I also carry the guide book pages and run into a lot of hikers that want to know more about...

You're not being dropped off in the wilderness and do not need a fixed blade knife or the mentality that goes with it.
Frogg Toggs are good inexpensive rain gear and in most conditions you only have...
Get rid of the big knife, you will not need it for anything.
I've been making packs for 10 years. Spectra cloth is hard to beat but a very good pack can be made with sil nylon and a cordura bottom and shoulder straps.

Does anyone have the Appalachian Trail Guide for Southwest Virginia other than myself? There is an unambiguous warning regarding vandalism at 623. A well informed hiker should have a guide book for...

The blue blazed trail down to Davis Path Campsite is steep and has several blow downs. It leads to the edge of Burke's Garden and has a nice view shed, but the camping is not what you might expect....

I used New Balance becuase of the available widths but decided to ditch them for lack of shank support. I now use a Hi tek wide shoe with a steel shank.

I've been using Toggs for 10 years. Use a small sil nylon sac and they pack down.
I hit the roller coaster during my thru-hike in early July when the temps were soaring in the high 90's. The section is not strenuous, but takes it toll for those wanting to fly up the trail at 4+...
