The hostel near Atkins is Long Neck Lair, an alpaca farm. They're .25 miles from the trail. Stayed there twice last year. They shuttle as well. Nice folks. New bunkhouse.

Was just in Roan Highlands last week. Plenty of snow. Trail was packed down mostly. Trail runners were mostly fine but saw 2 guys wearing microspikes. Doing Newfound Gap to Standing Bear in 2...

Good stuff! Doing Erwin to Carvers Gap in late August then Carvers Gap to Kincora in late October. Been looking forward to these sections for a while now.
