    Default Panorama Back Packer

Hey Y'all, my oldest boy just told me about this web site. I don't know too much about it yet, but think it's interesting. Thought I'd pass it on.

    "Oops!" noted...

Anybody think they can get a panoramic view off Katahdin on there? I'd love to see that.

Looks like a sell site for someone's panorama software. Not exactly PC friendly either. And most of the pics are of urban areas and developed sites (ski slopes, farms, rivers by the side of the road, etc.). Not backpacking as we Americans think of it. On the whole, unimpressive.

I've been messing with strip panoramas for a while now on the PC and have been taking series photos for some years in anticipation of doing it. Somewhere down the road soon I'd like to start submitting strip and 360-QT4 panos to some of the collection sites. The Smokies and the southeast have been sadly neglected.

The best software I've seen for panorama making is Panorama Factory (panoramafactory.com). It will automatically calculate everything--including barrel correction and effective focal length--after which you can jump in and tweek or adjust. It will also generate 360deg. cylindrical Quicktime panoramas, which is the immersive click-n-drag-to-look-around stuff you see on the web at most pano collections. (And which a lot of packages still can't do, or only if you pay extra $$$.) It's modestly priced.
