Georgia: May or June?
I can escape for 2 weeks in either the beginning of May or the beginning of June and plan to hike on the AT in GA/NC. What would be better weather wise? Thanks!

Beginning of May will be cooler and water will be more plentiful, less leaves out mean better views as well..
Based on my experience hiking GSMNP (which is farther North and higher elevations than GA):
I too would recommend the beginning of May over the beginning of June. By June, the weather will already be getting hot (especially when it comes time to crawl into a tent). As for leaves, blooming season in GSMNP is April. So by May, I expect the bulk of the summer leaves are already going to be out.
The only reason I would possibly pick June over May is that depending upon the weather, early June is when the synchronous fireflies come out in parts of GSMNP... so I personally would pick GSMNP in June over GA in May.

Early May, before school is out. Less bugs and snakes.
I don't think you can go wrong with either time frame. As others have stated, May will be cooler, but June still won't be that hot.
May is the time. Just did Neels to Deep Gap in October and it was a tough walk, but a great time out.
I'd want to go in May if it were me. June was getting a little warm when I hiked there. (But it was still chilly the first few nights in early June, so be prepared either way.)

Our goal is to hit the trail in GA in mid May. Haven't hit the date on the head yet.
i am doing the approach trail to long creek falls may 5-6
I will be going May the 5th for a section hike from Springer to Dicks Creek Gap. Can't wait!!!
How is the weather the first of May?
I'd go in May. It was plenty HOT when we started mid-may last year.
Statistically May is the second driest month in N. Georgia, Oct. the driest. No guarantee!!
I'm planning Springer to Dicks Gap beginning June 1. If I had a choice, I would do early May, but can't escape work until Memorial Day. Both have the potential to be hot ---or chilly at night. Pop-up thunderstorms are more likely in June, but they are hit or miss, and don't last long.
Mountain laurels will be blooming in May --rhododendrons a little later, if that matters to you.
I'm heading out from the approach trail on June 1st
I'd go with May. June will be hot and buggy, and May a little less hot but probably just the same buggy.
