Default New book on Grandma Gatewood

My daughter just did the index for a book on Grandma Gatewood that is to be published in April of 2014. While she couldn't let me read any sections, she enjoyed it enough to order a copy through Amazon for me as a Christmas present. She gave me a few teaser hints though telling me that I would be impressed with some of the adversity at home that she had to overcome. The episode at Rainbow Lake is covered and apparently did not play out just as I remembered hearing about it. My daughter was tight-lipped about more details and said that I would have to wait until my own copy arrived. Has anyone heard previously that this book is coming out?

I have not heard anything, but I am excited to see that something like that is being done! I will certainly be pre-ordering a copy for myself!

I can't get GG to sign it but mine will be signed by the indexer. I never even knew that such a task existed until my daughter started doing this. I just assumed that the author did this but that was not the case. She promises that it will be a great read.

The author, Ben Montgomery, is already engaged in the A.T. community. He attended the A.T. 75th Anniversary celebration in Harpers Ferry last year with Lucy Seeds, Grandma Gatewood's youngest daughter. He escorted Lucy in the parade and assisted with Lucy's presentation on her mother.

He also accompanied Lucy when she accepted the Hall of Fame award on behalf of Grandma Gatewood when she was inducted in the A.T. Hall of Fame. This fall, the A.T. Museum invited Ben to speak about Grandma Gatewood at The Gathering. Ben is a distant relative of Grandma Gatewood and a reporter with the Tampa Bay Times.

It's great to have information being made available about Emma -- since she's such an important part of hiking history!

I just wanted to let you know that I'm with Eden Valley and we're working on a PBS Documentary about her which we hope will be completed in time for her 60th Anniversary in 2915. It will be called Trail Magic and will air on WGTE/PBS in Toledo. Along with the documentary we already have an e-book available about her (available for kindle and as a pdf -- see http://edenvalleyenterprises.org/booksoh.html#grandma ) and a storytelling program and play available for presentations for groups. You can get complete information about the project at http://edenvalleyenterprises.org/pro...od/gtwdinf.htm and see our trailer, too!

My Mom lived just down the rd from Unicoi gap when she was a young girl. One of her brothers picked up Grandma Gatewood at Unicoi gap and took in to Hiawassee for supplies. She then came to my Grand parents home and stayed with them for a couple of days. My Mom said she would sit and tell them stories about her hike. I think it's pretty cool to know that my Mom can tell me those same stories. She said she can still remember her just like it was yesterday.
