Rain pants reccs?

Plan to hike roan mtn section next week. Weather looking like could possibly have some freezing rain. I've used frog toggs/driducks but ripped pants after a few hikes. Bought OR Foray goretex rain jacket/parka. Not the lightest jacket but very functional as shell...XL is 16 ounces very happy with. Seems to breath well and packs small. Looking for rain pants input.

I'm not that impressed with my Marmot precip rain pants. They get the job done, but they are heavy. Seem durable, although I've had them for years and only used them a handful of times. I think they are like 12 oz. If you could find them cheap I'd get them. Just was looking at http://www.backcountry.com/patagonia...0NhdDExMTEwMzE

If they actually keep the rain off that's an amazing weight.

Used an old rain fly to make rain skirts for myself and my boyfriend. They are very breathable and work great. You could make one in a few hrs if you have the material.

Andrewsobo, the Pata. Houdini pants you link to are not waterproof, just water resistant, as they say: 'resist drizzle and splashes' A heavy rain would soak through these.

Go-Lite Tumalo w/ full side zips. Easy to get on/off and they breathe well....

Zpacks cuban rain Kilt 1.6oz and they come right above my ankles. I know it sounds dumb but i've never found a pair of rain pants that were breathable that I didn't sweat in causing my legs to get wet anyways. For me personally I like having the breathability and convenience of being able to take it off if I want to in 30 seconds or less.

Forget breathability, not going to happen if you're wearing a truly waterproof rain jacket. The next best thing for any rain gear are pit-zips. They make any sauna suit bearable.

+1 on the Zpacks kilt.

Full side zips in rain pants are awesome. So are rain kilts. Rain kilts don't work as well in windy conditions. Rain pants are quite warm.

I have rain pants from EMS - heavy (because of the full length zipper) but warm.
Rain kilt is extremely light and easier to take on an off.Much less warming.

I just let my pants get wet. They'll dry off sooner or later. I do have a nice rain jacket that keeps me dry from around the hip bones up, but haven't found anything decent as far as rain pants, that aren't bulky and tiresome to put on and take off.

I LOVE the "rain kilt" out of silnylon idea. I need to find a piece of cloth.... a mitten clip and some elastic and shock cord could make that really easy.

I hike in shorts. I carry rain pants for rainy days and town wear. I use either dri ducks or walmart cheap rain pants . dri ducks are the best but the rip too easy. the walmart pants are awesome but are a bit bulky and have no pockets . I'm looking for a value upgrade
