    It is just a couple more miles;
    Water is right down that hill, just a little ways;
    You can walk it off tomorrow;
    Looks like we are almost at the top of this one.
    Lies, all lies and unwritten.

    You can drink your own urine three times before it becomes toxic to your system

    (yes, really)

    (I know from an exam question, not personal experience)

    Bring enough water.....but not too much!

    Bring enough snacks.....and then bring more.

    HYOH is something you consider before you open your mouth....it's not something you should ever have to say to another.

    Take the time to say hello to all you meet....and give them the opportunity to tell their story.

    Brilliant....especially for us over-planners!

    I called Sawyer and they said about filtering urine will filter any bacteria. but will not filter uric acid.

    The evaporation point of water is lower than uric acid. If you dig a hole, place a collection container in the hole, pee in the collection container, then take a piece of plastic and make a tarp over the container and position it so that the condensation collects and runs into another container, you will have clean(ish) water to drink.

    I would imagine this would be similar to a solar still

    The primary dissolved molecule in urine is urea, not uric acid (the are not at all alike - uric acid is a purine). Urea is a small, very polar molecule (NH2CONH2), so evaporating the water will be your best bet (could not be filtered). Urea can be hydrolyzed to produce ammonia and CO2, but this wouldn't help as ammonia is also quite soluble and also more toxic than urea. In fact your body produces the urea to detoxify the ammonia waste produced from protein catabolism.

    Unwritten rules should really remain unwritten, otherwise someone is gonna post em at a shelter and I'll be forced to use em to start a fire.

    When you come into a shelter area after dark, try to be quiet and do not talk out loud.
