    Default Happy 25th Birthday GPS

Navigation was changed 25 yrs ago today when the Air Force launched the first satellite in the US GPS system.

GPS for navigation use is obvious..be it hiking, biking or the automobile. But also the maps we use are immeasurably more accurate because of GPS technology.

Arguably one of the most important technological inventions for any outdoor users (and I say this as a person who rarely uses a GPS in the backcountry..at least directly )

I will bet the GPS has saved more gas than all the Hybrids put together, too.

But how do you one use one indirectly? You following your hiking partner with one?
