    Default AT Experience Checklist

In the idea of a bucket list, what places on and off the trail should be considered essential to the AT experience? I don't mean for a thru-hiker, but for anyone interested in getting an appreciation for the AT. This could include hikes, (easy, hard, ridiculous), views, shelters, hostels, towns, individuals/legends....anything that should be checked off on a list with the heading:

I'll never hike all of the Appalachian Trail, but I've gotten to see:

....and yes, I absolutely plan on compiling any contributions to make this list for Snacktime and myself. Since I plan to break it up by state, please identify the location of your suggestions. Thanks!

No, the Mountian Harbor B+B has the amazing breakfast. The homemade cinnamon sticky buns are to die for, along with the other dozen or so dishes she puts out which fills a full size kitchen table

Great suggestions here. I would add Trails Days, get your picture taken at the ATC headquarters, and ferrying across the Kennebec.

Not that this isn't a good topic, but I was kind of let down with I saw it was places, looking at the title I thought it was more a You haven't hiked the AT until you've been woken up by a raccoon crawling over your face type of thing.
There's no reward at the end for the most miserable thru-hiker.
After gear you can do a thru for $2,000.
No training is a substitute for just going and hiking the AT. You'll get in shape.

Thanks . . . almost 40 years later I'm still trying to forget the 6 inch long millipedes crawling over me in Mashipacong Shelter that I woke up to one morning. Just too creepy.
