Default Anyone want to hike in the Pyrenees?

After walking the Santiago de Compostela last September, I now am planning to hike the GR 11 across the Spanish Pyrenees from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Ocean in June through July. About 40 days in duration. Any takers? Planning n stying n refues and tenting UL.

Small world --- my wife and I hiked the Camino this past September too. I hope you'll post some info about your GR 11 trip after you return.

I really want to climb the Matterhorn, however I am still suffering with a chronic illness that now has me disabled 100%.
This has kept me off the trail for a year, hope I find an answer, good luck to you. Life really is an adventure.....

I would love to!!! I did the Camino in April/May of last year and I'm hooked, but unfortunately, the cost of airfares keep me stateside.

Hi Kathy, sorry about the cost. We met on the AT and a the Gathering. Methinks it would be fun to have you as a hiking partner.

We hiked the HRP (parellels the GR11 and GR10) from the Atlantic to the Med. back in '99.
You can read about it here: http://fiddlehead.wordpress.com/2007...-the-frontier/

After we finished, we put together a slide show which I have since converted to a video on youtube that you can see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ltyc0eWqoo

The hike was one of the highlights of my life and I still have many friends from it.

The European people tend to go into the GITES (like huts in the whites) and pay big bucks to sleep and eat every night.
We did the hike thru-hike style and slept in tents at the most beautiful high places and had the mountains to ourselves most every night.
The Gites are usually down in the valleys.

The French towns were spectacular and the cheese was the best I've ever had even to this day (we bought it direct from the goat shepherds in the mtns)
    Good wine too.

The hiking is steep. Steeper than anything in the states.
I did the Long trail to prepare and thought I was in good hiking shape.
Wrong. These climbs were steeper and right down again.
Not much ridge walking after you leave the Basque country.

Enjoy your hike and write back to tell us how it was.

By the way, in that video you'll see after the hike was finished we drove the perimeter of Spain and Portugal and slept out on beaches every night.
The whole trip was 3 months long.
The 3 of us from the states got together just this past August for a reunion and the French girl comes to Phuket once in a while (where I now live)
Don't let your fears stand in the way of your dreams
