Sectioned around 300mi total in the last few years. Last month my company got bought by new ownership and they fired the entire staff, so I find myself with a bucket of savings and a bucket of time, so no time like the present eh? Have 6 months worth of planning to do in 6 weeks, but my gear and skillset has been dialed in for years, so figure I've got odds as good as they are gonna get. See you guys out there!

I just told a good friend about my plan to hike the AT and in his supportive incredulity he said "that's insane." I told him it makes me happy how insane it is.

After some deliberation and due to more appropriate timing in my life, I've decided to change my plans for a NOBO to a Flip-Flop starting in end of May/early June near the NY/CT heading North. After completing that, I'll travel back to that NY/CT spot and head south from there. I'm slightly inexperienced so it made more sense to start there than doing a strict SOBO hike in June. I like the idea of walking in one direction, but neither NOBO or SOBO make as much sense to me at this juncture.

NOBO or SOBO (and why): NOBO, timing works for me, need to be ready to work again when schools start in August
Reason your thru hiking: I love nature, I love being able to carry everything I need to survive on my back, I need a break from the 'real world', I value experiences over material possessions and I love a good challenge. I also look at it as a major detox for my body, which won't hurt. I also love feeling 'connected' and for me there is no better way to feel that way than being in nature.
Level of experience: High. I have spent many nights in the woods and have been on plenty of solo backpakcing trips.
