It appears to me that I am a member of a great gathering of people from all walks of life who after opening up a birthday present, a Christmas present, or any present from friends and get a pair of hiking socks would say "Oh they are great, they are wonderful and they are just want I wanted" and really mean it.

I got these Alpaca socks made by a co-op of Alpaca producers for Christmas that need to be broken in. Wonderful socks for my feet to be protected and cozy ......and then I get to make them stink.

"Oh they are great, they are wonderful and they are just want I wanted" - followed by: "Are they merino wool?"

I was very disappointed Christmas morning when I found NO Darn Tough socks, which were specifically on my list. My birthday follows in January--still no socks. It was a sad, sad winter...

It's funny how something like socks, that we barely notice in daily life, are such a huge matter while hiking.
