    Frosty - male, 58, NH

    Start date: March 1

    # in party: 1

Miles/day: probably around 10-12 to start, 17-20 in the middle and about 15 in NH/ME

Off day: perfer neros to zeros, but will be taking a few weeks off in late spring/early summer for business reason

ETA Katahdin: late Aug/early Sept (I hope)

Reason: too stupid to know when to quit or even to section hike - I just keep doin' the same parts over and over

I'm actually going to throw my hat into the ring here. I'm shocked that I'm doing it, but what the heck. Tomorrow I talk to HR about a leave of absense or leave without pay to see how it'll pan out. Wish me luck on that front.

    Jay - Male, 27
    Trail name: none yet.
Start date: Early to Mid March
    # in party: 1
    Miles/day: 10 - 20, goal is to reach K by late September
    Off day: 1/wk max.
    ETA Katahdin: 7 mos.
Reason: I want to hike the Appalachian Trail, basically it's that simple. I'm not at a "transition time" in my life necessarily (although the hike will precipitate one), but now is not a bad time to hike, either.

I look forward to meeting everyone on the trail. Even if a thru doesn't pan for 2006, maybe I'll get to do some multi week sections farther North than I've been.

So add me to the list please. Thanks!

    Default 100 Registered Members Mark!

There are currently 100 registered members who have decided to give it a shot next year (2006). 30% plan to hike with others. Assuming no overlaps (an overlap would mean both in the party are registered members and listed themselves separately), if we count all potential partners whiteblaze knows of 139 people hitting the trail between Jan-July of next year. Good Luck. Keep the entries coming. Look for updates in the articles section under Class of 2006.

    Philip - male, 28, PA
Start date: Feb 28th Fat Tuesday
    # in party: 1
    Miles/day: 10 - 20
    Off day: 1/wk.
    ETA Katahdin: 4 mos.
Reason: B/c I'm an overachiever. I heard the sucess rate is very low, so I have to prove myself. Not to mention I have the time, the energy, the determination, and love traveling, and being outdoors. I have never hiked a day in my life.

I have changed my plans, and now am planning on starting on tax day. I need more time to save since I found out I am going to have to start paying school loans off.

Most everyone who posted here is leaving in March, so you are sure to have company.

What we ought to do is have some way of identifying whiteblaze members so we can say HI when we meet. Especially all us March 1 starters.

If you don't mind my asking, what is the origin of your trail name?

Default Anyone starting out in Feburary

Hey there! I am planning my NoBo hike starting mid-feb., anyone else looking to do the same? I have scheduling conflicts that require I start earlier than most so I can finish in June. Outside of the weather aspect I figure the early start will give me some great winter shots! Does anyone know when spring usually hits Tenn. or N.Car.? Hope to see you all there!!!

    Ania - F - 24 (25 in April)
Trail name: until I start the trail, I will not know
Start date: First week of May
    # in party: 1 - hopefully will convince some friends to go
Miles/day: having hiked only a handfull of times in my life, and only twice in recent memory, I really have no idea.
Off day: When I need it.
ETA Katahdin: 2007, as I'll probably only do 1/2 way this year, from GA to Maryland. Too many weddings & sicknesses in the family to stay away for more than 4 months.
Reason: I went on my first hike in years in October at Maryland Hights in Harpers Ferry. While I followed the green, red & blue marks marking my trail, I noticed at one point the white blaze. I recalled distant childhood memories of driving on I90 in Mass. and seeing a bridge over the interstate marked "Appalacian Trail," and my mother and grandmother telling me stories of my greatgrandfather doing large chunks of the trail 40+ years ago. My job & life in general suddenly seemed like an itchy sweater that I was desperate to chuck. And so, I hope to do just that for a while, come May. (Yeah, long story, I know, I'm a chatter-box).
