    Default Water in MD

    I will be hiking MD south bound starting on Friday. I would appreciate any information about the water sitution.

    I hiked MD the week before last. The shelters had water. Ashby Rocks had water. Nothing was dried up.

    I frequently carried water for 10 mile portions because I was unsure of the water situation, but never needed my full 2 liter supply before getting to more water.

    The same was true for Nothern VA as well.

    i have never had a water problem on the Maryland section at the shelters. There is also water at Dahgren backpacker campground and Gathland State Park. The water source at Ed Garvey shelter is a long walk down and a steep climb back up, however, especially when you are tired.
