2 night hiking/camping at Delaware Water Gap?

OK cabin fever is killing me. The fam and I have gotta get out. (dog too) One plan to do some hiking and camping on the Batona Trail here in South Jersey. Another plan is to go up to the Delaware Water Gap area. Of course I am looking at the NPS website for info and it seems pretty restrictive. Is there any hike-camping up there for two possibly 3 nights with a dog? Or are we looking at a nice campground and venturing out from there?

It doesn't seem there would be any problem with parking at the NJ Visitor Center or Dunnfield Trailhead, and backpacking with your dog to the backpacker camp sites south or north of the Mohican Outdoor Center. You could continue north, and then return south either via the AT OR spur trails that go to Old Mine Trail.

When I inquired about camping along the AT in the Delaware Gap region, the rangers told me that one had to thru-hike. In other words, one cannot park, hike in and camp, and then return for your car. Now that was about 10+ years ago, and the rules may have changed.

Not likely. You have to remember this is a highly over used tourist area so they have to be pretty restrictive.

They have no problem with overnight parking at the visitors center. I have done it several times. I have called and spoken to the rangers and their only real warning was basically park at your own risk.
