Default Indian Festival Labor Day weekend?

I saw a note in the Companion about the KSC being reserved on Labor Day weekend for a traditional Indian festival. My hike is planned to end on the Wednesday or Thursday before. Will it already be full then? I guess I can stay in Millinocket if I have to.

Is it worth sticking around the weekend to check out?

Katahdin Stream Campground is set aside each labor day weekend for the Penobscots. It's not for gawkers, but hospitality is often offered to AT hikers passing thru the campground. The Birches, the long distance hiker's site, is not part of this. ATers hiking in from Monson can still stay there.

"[ATers] represent three percent of our use and about twenty percent of our effort," retired Baxter Park Director Jensen Bissell.
