Default section Hike: Gettysburg to Bear Mountain

I start my section hike in about a week. Gettysburg to Bear Mountain this year.

My resupply points work out to Duncannon, around Port Clinton, Delaware Water Gap and Greenwood Lake.

I am leaving a car at New York City and traveling by Train to Gettysburg. So I thought I would drop my resupply boxes off on the way up

1.Duncannon has the Doyle. They do take resupply, don't they?

    2. DWG has Edge of the Woods outfitter. Says they take resupply.

3.Greenwood Lake has Lake Lodging, which is hiker friendly. I'll call to double check

    4. That leaves Port Clinton. The motel there doesn't take/hold boxes. Anyone have any ideas?? I could just mail it to myself and hope I get there when the post office is open. I'd prefer to leave it somewhere in person.

Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions

How are you getting from Gettysburg to the trail?
you left to walk the appalachian trail
you can feel your heart as smooth as a snail
    the mountains your darlings
but better to love than have something to scale

Unionville, NY is only a day or two south of Greenwood Lake. The town is about 1/2 mile down the road from the the trailhead.

rafe, thanks for the unionville idea, i'll check it out. My last supply is only three or four days. I could split the last two more evenly.

QHshowwoman. Good question. I was going to taxi it from a motel in town. But I could use a shuttle if there is anyone local?? You know of anyone?

I don't - but I was curious if you knew some sort of hiking route between Gettysburg & the AT. Oh well!

Here are a couple of shuttle listings from the ATC Web site:
    Robert George Freeman
    (a.k.a. Junker)
    Fayetteville, PA
Hiking and shuttling hikers since 1989.
Shuttles from Front Royal, VA to Delaware
Water Gap, PA. Slack packing from Penn
Mar to Duncannon, PA. Bunkhouse with
    showers and kitchen use (donation).

As far north or south as hikers need.

When do you need the shuttle? Fri/25 in late afternoon? Sat/26 early in the morning? I will be in the area.
There will also be a bunch of WB folks at the MAHHA hang at Pine Grove SP next weekend.
    Backpacking light, feels so right.

    There's a train to Gettysburg?
The trouble I have with campfires are the folks that carry a bottle in one hand and a Bible in the other.

In Port Clinton see if the local Cabela's will help!

Winged monkey: not exactly. Train to Harrisburg and bus to Gettysburg.

The cabella's is in Hamburg. It's only about two miles and right across the street from the microtel. I will check it out.
The microtel in Hamburg is also promising. I'm confirming with management tomorrow afternoon about them taking a drop box.

    couscous,
It would be Sunday afternoon or Monday Morning. I'm leaving NYC Sunday morning. the trip takes all day with transfers.

It just occurred to me that a shuttle from Harrisburg might be more efficient. I'll check that out too.

Two days late for me to help, but one of the shuttles listed above should work.
