I saw a lot of thru-hikers in central VA and SNP in late May and early June the last couple of years.

It's not so much a bubble but a wave when it hits VA. It's a pretty consistant parade starting early May with the crest of the wave probably late May up in northen VA.

That sounds about right... the waves come in steadily by the first of June in Central VA.

I was in Damascus last week and there were a ton of Thru hikers in town...I would guess that they will be in SNP area by mid-May. It looks like the head of the pack is already through SNP and into PA. We hiked McAfee Knob last Mon and didn't see any thru hikers.

I was just in the Grayson Highlands section this Easter weekend and saw about 5 thru hikers each day.
