Default Side trails (things to see)

I will be hiking from Springer to Erwin/or as far as I get this summer. Since I will be without a real destination, I have time to take any side trails along the way that might be interesting. I am wondering if anybody would say there are some must see things or things of interest that can be found by detouring off the trail for a short hike for the part of the trail I am considering. Thanks.

Fire towers and waterfalls, go to every one of them you pass. I never took a blue blaze to a waterfall or tower that wasn't worth it.
