Thanks, Ender! You're the second to recommend West Mountain Shelter, so it is my goal. Here's hoping for clear weather!

It's totally worth it to go there I think. One time I was there it was crystal clean at the shelter, but there was a lightning storm over NYC, so we watched the skyline get hit by lightning for a solid 90 minutes. Just a great show.

Still, folks have asked me for details, and this is the best I can offer. Tuesday will be a travel day and evening hike. Sunday will be a half day if at all, then likely travel to an airport in NYC for an evening (or Monday morning) flight.

Alternative One (10 mile days, "highway-to-highway")

6-10 Tue 5.0 mi Hwy 94 to Wawayanda Shelter
6-11 Wed 10.0 mi Wawayanda to Hwy 17A
    6-12 Thu 10.0 mi Hwy 17A to Hwy 17
6-13 Fri 9.9 mi Hwy 17 to William Brien Shelter
6-14 Sat 10.1 mi William Brien to Hudson River
6-15 Sun 6.4 mi Hudson River to Graymoor Spiritual Life Center?

    Total Trail Miles 53.2

Alternative Two (12 mile days, includes West Mountain Shelter)

6-10 Tue 5.0 mi Hwy 94 to Wawayanda Shelter
6-11 Wed 12.1 mi Wawayanda to Wildcat Shelter
6-12 Thu 9.9 mi Wildcat to Hwy 17
6-13 Fri 12.8 mi Hwy 17 to West Mountain Shelter
6-14 Sat 7.0 mi West Mountain to Hudson River
6-15 Sun 6.4 mi Hudson River to Graymoor Spiritual Life Center?

    Total Trail Miles 53.2
    Rainman,

The 2nd set sound better. So we can meet early Friday morning and head to West Mountain shelter. Can't wait to get there.

If anyone is familiar with the Area what's the best shuttle or taxi to go from Bear Mountain to Hwy 17?

    Rainman,

Why don't we plan on hiking from West Mountain Shelter to Hemlock Springs Campsite for Saturday night and then we can hike to my car early Sunday morning. That would be a total of 9.2 miles on Saturday. And 3.1 miles to my car on Sunday morning, which would give us enough time to get back.

In the interest of Full Disclosure, I'm married to a Cleveland, Ohio girl. More north than that and she'd be Canadian! LOL

In DC tonight. Held my first grandbaby. Changed her diaper, even. Tomorrow I abandon the family, including leaving Grandma here with grandbaby, and head for the trail in NJ and will be sleeping at Wawayanda Shelter tomorrow night!

Y'all don't misbehave on here while I'm gone, now, ya'hear?!

As we [pulled away from the Days Inn I asked Snacktime: "So, what'd ya think?" He replied "That was great!".

Thank you, Rain Man, for giving us a chance to have this adventure. See you in October?

I certainly plan to come back in the Fall to hike into Connecticut or more. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Rainman, I enjoyed your photos. Wow, you could have lost a toe getting up in the morning with that snapper under your hammock.

And Teacher & Snacktime demonstrate once again that they are true Angels, on and off the trail.

As an old Harriman hand, I appreciate the chance to wallow in nostalgia. Many thanks.

Nice shots Rain Man. Brings back memories - Harriman Park was the first place where I saw the AT and did my early hiking, even in pre-teen years.
