Default Poll: Which direction did you go or which direction will you go on the CT?

An interesting question has arisen on another thread. How many people hike from Durango to Denver as opposed to Denver - Durango? I have come up with my idea of this answer based upon my association with the Colorado Trail Foundation (I am the vice-chair of the board) and my personal experiences from six CT completions over the years, but no hard data really exists. So here are the questions:

    1. If you have hiked and completed the trail which direction did you go?
    2. If you are currently planning a trip which direction will you go?

Use SWBO (South West Bound) to indicate a Denver to Durango trip, and
Use NEBO (North East Bound) to indicate a hike from Durango to Denver trip.

Thank you for responding. I will go first.

    SWBO - 5, NEBO - 1

Though I'm a completer, my excursions weren't even close to a thru. In fact, hike, bike, and horse, over MANY years. Like your poll, but you'd need to credit me with SWBO=0 and NEBO=0.

POOF! Now a sticky (I went Durango bound FWIW)

We could use a category for section travelers as well?

Another SWBO here on the 2011 thruhike.

The logistics were easier for us to hike SWBO but the larger consideration was acclimation.

FWIW, during the course of our 38 day hike SWBO, we met only 6 NEBOs coming our way.

Hypothetically speaking. SWBO. Durango being the carrot on a string.
In a perfect world, round trip. CE & CW. One going and the other coming back.

I really wanted to incorporate the CW loop into my thru hike but ultimately I didn't want to deal with the logistics. The loop could be a very nice hike separate from a thru hike at some point.

Thanks for the tip. I have been pondering how to do both.

Planning SWBO starting June 26th.... When I was planning this trip i read that by starting this time and heading towards Durango, I would be chasing the melting snow.. Apparently this year isnt normal...

SWBO - started 6-23-13 and finished 32 days later. 3 zero days.

And thanks again, Jerry, for that potential fire walk-around route. I'm certainly glad I didn't have to use it, but it was good knowing I could have finished my hike if I had needed it.

I've thru hiked(hiked all the CT in one shot, a completer) one time doing a flip flop although have thrued the CDT and hiked several multi 100 mile sections of the CT/CDT several times. On my CT thru started SWBO at Salida/Hwy 50 taking the Fooses Creek Tr(the CT) up to Monarch Crest. Hiked to Durango where I hitched back to this pt and hiked NEBO to Denver. Glad to see someone has the compass directions correct. That's what I'd expect from a cartographer.

CT 2013 was SWBO (but bailed out due to accident/injury)
CT 2014 will be SWBO--no accident this time! Durango or Bust!!
