Google Map Member Locator For WhiteBlaze members.

I saw that over on H.F. there was a google map for locating forum members (you can view a map and see who is near you, near a trail etc). But I could not find one for WhiteBlaze.

If there is one, please let me know.

But If there isn't one already, I would like to attempt to make one.

I have been looking for "layers" so that I can add PCT, CDT, and A.T maps (and possibly shelters). I believe that I can get a map up pretty soon, and then i will leave it "open" so that other W.B. members to edit/add.

But first, I would like to start small by adding W.B. forum members.

If you want to be added to the map, please reply with either your zip code, your town/state, or if you want to keep a little bit of privacy, you can just enter a near 'big' town, if you don't want your exact location advertised.

(The one on H.F. looked like it was getting out of hand. I think there was a few thousand listed on it, or something and it even had members listed as living in the ocean. So I would like to start one off by me personally adding members, before I 'open' it to everyone else for edit.)

So far i had 8 people ask to be added to the map.

I also, went ahead and listed a few of the moderators in it, so that it'll give you members a better idea of what this map will look like, and the possibilities it can do. (If you are one of the moderators on the map and want to be removed from it, let me know)

Please reply here if you want to be added to the map. I'm hoping that this map will help forum members find hikers near them, or near trails they wish to visit.

Ricky, I see the map and letters, but not a list, is there one? I'm on a mobile sight and sometimes it doesn't show drop down menus...so just wondering if in fact there is one.

I can't get it to show up on the "google maps" app on my iPhone. But it shows up perfectly on my macbook. I'm still learning how to use the map, so I'll try to figure out how to use it for cells.

**update:**

In order to get this map started and off the ground, i added a few of the admins to it, so members could see an example. I only did that to a few of them, and will take you off the map if you want it off. I only added those names because they listed their locations freely here, and are also listed on the google map for H.F. so I thought it would deb okay to add you to this map to get it started.

But please tell me if you want removed. I have no problem with it.

(we have too many members for me to add by hand. Plus I think permission and privacy is important. So I plan to only keep those that want to be on it, and ask to be placed on it.)

there are 52,575 White Blaze members.

Hopefully we can even get 200 asking to be put up. And that should be enough to spread across the map fairly well

Good idea. I am trying to contact you in order to be added to the 'map site'. I live in VT near the A.T. Our son thru hiked last year, 2013. Since then, my wife and I have become very interested in the A.T. and the hiker journals. Let me know, Mike G up in VT.
