Default The Second Annual Leave No Hiker Behind Winter Trek

Last year we planned a three night group camp in Harriman Park, mid-January... A bit of an adventure for all, and lots of fun, but ended up being one night too long for everyone! This year I'd like to plan a two night group camp/hike somewhere in the CT NJ NY MA circle. Harriman park made a lot of sense because there are so many hiking loops that the trip could be customized to meet everyone's needs, abilities and time available. This is an opportunity to try out winter camping with bailouts built in. Any suggestions or interest?

Isn't this technically the third annual hike?

I'm all for it. If people want to do West Mountain, there are some interesting loops that can be assembled on the secondary trails. I'm curious to see Coach Lou's handiwork!
I always know where I am. I'm right here.

I just might be game. Haven't done any real winter camping, but I have the gear now, so why not?

actually, it is the second annual leave no hiker behind winter trek, not the third. The one you are thinking was "the first one" made no claim that everyone should finish with all their fingers. We are all more mature now. I am delighted that there is interest. Suggestions for destination would be in order. Guys, where in the world is West Mountain? And Rafe, you should definitely come!

Was west mountain shelter the one that we were supposed to stay at the third night?

yes sir...18 degrees and fallin' 30 mph winds forecast up on top...here's a picture I scabbed from "I'm Scotty" for a screen saver as a reminder of a place I'd like to go.

West Mountain had some great views and an invigorating breeze! The price I paid was I missed out on Coach Lou's cheesecake. I won't make that mistake again. If you are planning on MLK weekend again I may have a commitment, but if I can get free I am in.

I can't commit to anything just yet due to the impending arrival of Little Elf, but i will definitely try to attend.

thinking Saturday night the 17th and Sunday night the 18th of January. Thought about the weekend before, but that is really close to the whole new year's thing... would consider the following week if that worked better for others. That shelter is the one that has two fireplaces, right?
