Just throwing this offer out again: I'm back in town (Denver) after about 5 weeks on the AT (NJ up through New Hampshire, awesome section!), and available to give rides (free, of course) to folks to the CT trailhead in Waterton canyon if you can get yourselves to somewhere nearby using easily available public transportation (basically, the Skyride from DIA coupled with lightrail to Littleton station, though I'll pick up from downtown as well as long as it's not rush hour). We can of course also stop by an REI for a fuel (or other gear) pickup; there is one in Lakewood, though kind-of Littleton, very convenient, or the downtown REI flagship store if I pick you up at Union station (easy skyride from the airport).
I'm available virtually all Mondays through Wednesdays, most Thursdays and the occasional Friday/Sat/Sunday, though we are out hiking most weekends (For example, my wife is doing CT sections 5->1 this weekend, and I'm going to meet her at various points in the evenings).
I realize that my help is somewhat restrictive, but I did take about a half dozen folks to the trailhead last year.
Though of course good news for water issues, it's too bad for any of you who had wanted to start early this year, really epic snow this May, most I've seen in my 35 years in Colorado. Late June starts should still work OK, things should clean up nicely here in the next couple weeks. Late June starters will still have some minor snow to deal with, but should be no real issue.
Hi
Planning a Thru-hike (Durango-bound)
Starting on July 8 or 9 or 10... don't have a set date yet.
I am also looking for a buddy, at least to start with. If anyone is interested, PM me please. I am 33f. I have thruhiked Nordkalottruta / Kungleden (in Norway / Sweden), a bunch of smaller trails (Northville - lake Placid trail), and random sections of the AT.
I am also considering driving to Denver (from NY / NJ), so if anyone is looking for a ride from the East Coast, let me know!
THANKS!
Rob - Zman here. You gave me a shuttle last year (aborted hike due to injury & pack failure). I may take you up on the offer. I'm arriving Denver in the a.m. on 7/6 (Mon). Gonna take the airport shuttle to downtown & REI. Start hiking on 7/7 (Tue). Let me know if it is possible. Thanks...
And congrats on your long section hike.
2013 AT Thru-hike: 3/21 to 8/19
Schedule: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...t1M/edit#gid=0
6 more weeks before I finally get back on the trail! After looking at this thread, it almost sounds like most hikers will be either already or getting ready to finished before I hit the trail. Still I would like to meet some thru-hikers. Is anyone starting in late July?
Nickoli, I’m just curious is there a reason why your posting your gearlist on-line? Some hikers are going to carry more; others are going to carry less. It really depends on the hiker. Things maybe a different in Colorado than the East Coast but hikers have been getting robbed on the trail. Just this year on the AT during Trails Days, there were at least two expensive tents that were stolen. It just a matter of being safe.

Trail name: Rasta Boots
Direction: Toward Durango
Start date: July 9
Additional info: I am planning to hike a little over halfway: to Highway 50 (Segment 14). I'm also thinking I might do the next two segments in September. I will do the rest of the trail as a thru-hike in 2016, assuming my knees hold up. : ) I am hiking solo. I previously hiked the John Muir Trail solo.
-no trail name yet
-toward durango
-july 20ish start date
-experienced hiker but my first long distance hike
Very excited!! I have 6 weeks off work but hoping to hike 20ish miles a day so I have some time to head to a beach when I'm done!
