Variety review of A Walk in the Woods film

after reading that yuppy movie review, now I definitely want to see it.

The only movie I recognized was the most excellent Muscle Shoals-- and he got that all wrong.
I was really disappointed there was no stunning shots of the mountains or any outdoor views in the movie. How do you make a movie like this and not get stunning filming of nature? Seems like the director dropped the ball on that one.

I couldn't figure on why on earth this movie would premier at Sundance until I was like "duh, Robert Redford. Wildwood. Founder of Sundance."
Still, it doesn't seem like a Sundance film to me. It's not surprising it got panned there.
I guess I'll see it but I don't have high hopes. I read about 2/3 of the book some years back. It was amusing at first, but it lacked direction later on. Sounds like the movie might follow that pattern too.
This is a much better review. I've read the book 4 times, just finished the 4th reading yesterday. While I'm never in favor of radical changes from book to big screen, it doesn't sound as though this one has been changed all that much. I look forward to the movie.

Also, I do know about all of the complaints of how Bryson treated the South and Southerners in the book. Read ALL of his books. He is equally brutal to all sections of the United States, Europe, and Australia. Besides...I've lived in Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina....he isn't too far off......

I guess I will skip the movie and do the hike. Leaving March 16, 2015 and yes at 68 I'm one of them grumpy old men, the stay off my grass type.
