Default Shuttle - taxi possibilities question

    Hi,

We are looking at parking a car at The Inn at the Long Trail and what possible transportation options there were be to get to trail head at Middlebury Gap (north). Our plan is to be dropped off there and then hike south back to the car.

If anyone has any experience with the local private transportation, I would be interested in finding out about it. Although price is somewhat of a concern - reliability is more important.

Thank you in advance for any information.

    Lightbulb Permit me to start

There's a bus that goes right by the Inn at Long Trail to downtown Rutland, once an hour. This pdf
    http://www.thebus.com/seasonal/WinterBrochure14-15.pdf
    shows the schedule.

    DON'T REPEAT MY MISTAKE!
The Bus will stop if you stand here while waiting for it

but it will NOT stop if you stand here

    Believe me, I know!!

From downtown Rutland you can ride this bus
    http://actr-vt.org/rutland-connector-map/
to get to Middlebury. It runs six times a day, Monday to Saturday.

From Middlebury itself, you can walk to the trail, or ride a shuttle or a taxi you arranged in advance.
There are taxi services in Middlebury, but (I hate to say it again) they are NOT like taxis in large cities.
You don't phone their number and get a taxi within a few minutes.
If you haven't arranged one, you phone their number and find out if anyone is available in the next few hours.
If not, you're out of luck, or you wait a few hours.
    Again, believe me, I know!

Thanks - I will take a look at the schedules. Did call a taxi outfit in Middlebury and if we can get the bus to there from the I@LT then it will considerably cheaper than taxi the whole way.

Usually The Inn at the Long Trail has a board in their front entry way with various notices. I remember that one person left an add for shuttle services with tear off strips/cards on the bottom of the paper. You could call/ask the in if that service is still listed there. They're really helpful to hikers.

Thanks Mark. I will get in touch with the Inn and see if they still have a notice like that. It would be great if that option is still available.
