My call sign is N4AUD. I've never taken any sort of ham radio on a hike but I have talked to a couple of hikers on 2 meters. I'm not into code but one of those tiny QRP rigs in a tuna tin and a piece of wire to toss up into a tree might be fun. I've never done APRS either this seems interesting.
