Default Silnylon Tarp with Tyvek Bathtub Groundsheet

Here are some pictures of my new 10' x 6.5' rectangular tarp. I designed it and my grandmother, yes my grandmother, sewed it together and I am quite proud of it! I also made a Tyvek Bathtub Groundsheet to go with it.

    - Tarp: I got some ideas and guidelines from Joe Brewer's Youtube page as well as ZPack's rectangular cuben tarps, then I just meshed everything together and added whatever I wanted. On the long sides I have tie-outs at the halfway point as well as in thirds. On the short sides I have tie-outs halfway between the center and corners (I can use these to keep my bathtub floor up if the tarp is pitched particularly low). I used 1" nylon and D-rings for the center and corners and everything else is just 1/2" grosgrain.
    - Dimensions: 10' x 6.5' feet
    - Weight: 13.4 oz
    - 9 yds of 1.1 oz/yd coyote brown silnylon from ripstopbytheroll.com
    - Gutermann Mara thread

    - Groundsheet: I ordered a 9' x 5' sheet of Tyvek from ZPacks. I cut it down a bit so that I could have 7' x 3' of space and 8" walls. To make it a bathtub I marked 8" from each corner, brought the marks together and gorilla taped the excess folds to the long sides. This method is watertight without complicated cutting or stitching, but I suppose cutting the corners out could save a tad bit of weight. I then hole punched the corners and tied elastic with mitten hooks and cordlocks to pull it taut and give it shape.
    - Dimensions: 7' x 3'
    - Walls: 8" high
    - Weight: (a whopping) 9 oz

Looks pretty good, my question is if its windy and rainy do you think you will get wet from the front or rear? Hard to tell how much tarp cover you have in some of the angels.

Benjamin has a nice 120" ridge line. As long as he pitches the toe end into the wind he should have plenty of coverage in the length being able to scoot up toward the head end nicely. He could even pitch the head end up a little higher to give himself a little more entrance headroom. Nice DIY project. Your sack on your backpack thread was nice too Etoryn. THx to both of you for sharing and as always thanx to all those grandmas.

I have 1.5' between my ground sheet and the trekking pole on either side, plus 8" high extra bathtub protection. If I pitch against the wind properly I don't think I'll ever have a problem, and even with the trekking poles up high the rain would have to have a strong angle to get to me. If I am expecting heavy rain I will pitch it lower on the foot side and slide my groundsheet down a bit. I don't think having enough protection will ever be a problem. I'm really excited to test her out soon!

I'm interested to know how your tyvek bathtub has worked out. Thinking of building one of these, and also a tarp, from tyvek, and I'm wondering how resilient it is.
