A somewhat "off the radar" wind turbine project is going to be appearing soon in the viewshed of the Northern Whites and the Mahoosucs. A new five turbine windfarm on Jericho Mtn in Berlin NH should be in place within the next month or so. At its closest the farm is about 4 miles NW of the junction of the Centennial trail (AT) and the Mahoosuc Trail (AT) in Shelburne NH where it should be quite visible from the north facing ledges. The AT then sticks to the south side of the ridge line heading north but I expect that the farm may also be visible from Wocket Ledge and then the exposed ridge line north to Mt Speck
The farm will also be visible from the AT starting at MT Jefferson all the way to Madison as well as Moriah although its about 9 to 10 miles.
The towers will be about 500 feet from base to tip of the blades.
This project was permitted locally and escaped much of the typical review of similar projects in NH. The depressing part is that Northern NH has a major surplus of renewable power that due to limitations with the regional transmission grid is unable to be exported to the New England grid when its needed. The other much larger wind farm in Millsfield NH is limited to 50% rated output.
