Default Grandma Gatewood's Walk (the book)

Just finished reading this book by Ben Montgomery.
Of course I knew about Grandma Gatewood but I have now a whole new respect for her as a person not just as the legendary hiker.
If anyone here wants some good inspiration or simply a good read, see if you can get it.

Its a good book, because its about the person.
Its not just a rebadged trail journal like so many awful books

Grandma Gatewood.jpgWe're very proud of her here in Ohio and regularly make it down to southern Ohio for the annual Winter hike on the section named for her, she led this January event for many years.

I'm not sure what Earl's problem was with Grandma....but it does not matter, this book is a good read. Grandma Gatewood had a tough life and was a remarkable woman.

The book actually does explain what the problem was between her and Earl Shaffer.

Elray, I would be proud too !!!
(that plaque and that walk are featured in the book too)

I grabbed this book at the library the instant I saw it, and also enjoyed it very much. I was sad to read that the motivation for her hikes was what it was, though - I guess I'd never thought about it before, what would make a woman of her time and circumstances pick up and leave, but once I read it I understood it better.
