Anyone know the going rate for a shuttle from Fontana Dam to the NOC?

Id expect $50. Jeff hooch at the hike inn will.be lowest price most likely as he has least driving to do. A hitch is free.

I got one in 2010 for $70-$90 from The Hike Inn. That included dropping a car at stecoah which came in handy mid trip, and 3 people and a dog.

Easy hitch? Not familiar with NC 28.

    Didnt say easy. Said free.

I think theres 3 ways to go leaving Fontana. Not counting back over the bridge and the dragon. (which I wont do again just for fun) One goes past NOC. So odds might be that one in 3 people leaving there could take you.

Saturday or Sunday hitch would not be too hard, this time of year. due to tourist and leaf watching. I'd hang out at the entrance to the dam and hope for someone heading back to gorge. On a week day you would sit for a long time. During winter you would be waiting as well. I have hitched from the dam to Bryson City when I did the lake shore trail about 10 years ago.

    yeah.........

i was thinking the same thing-----hanging out at entrance to dam, and have sign saying where ya going.............tuck hair under hat..........

but, it could be a tough hitch........

you could be there for seconds with the right person driving by, or be there for hours...........

add weather to that factor as well...................

but, it could make for a good story.........

i know i have a few stories about the times ive hitched (but only in GSMNP)...............

    I recommend The Hike Inn.

Head down to the Fontana Village store and ask around.
