    Default Holt's Ledge (NH)

I ascended to Holt's Ledge from the south on a very dripping morning, just in time to see the sun come over the ridge and tinge the fog wisping around the mountain peaks. What a beautiful way to start the day!

Southbounders be careful -- on a foggy day it wouldn't be too difficult to miss the right turn the Trail takes along the Ledge and just keep on walking through a sparse set of low bushes right into nothingness! The cliff drops straight down for something like 500 feet it seemed.

There are a few other dicey places where another AT blaze or cairn would be helpful.

I've tried to get one placed and even built a cairn myself, but the "maintaining club" scattered the rocks. Every year at least one NoBo Thru Hiker doesn't make the 'left turn' and slips down the rock face.

Those who know, know where I'm talking about. The rest of you ... stay alert the first 30 miles of your NoBo.
