    Default Wanted; Hammock System

Looking for someone's used hammock system that would work for a thruhike of the AT in 2016. I have a few mix and match systems of hammock, tarp and underquilt that I am looking at but all of them take up half of my budget. Before I sink that much money into it I am just putting some feelers out to see if anyone is ok with selling their gear. Thank you for reading!

    Thank you very much!

Some fantastic deals but I am not allowed to comment or purchase until I have posted elsewhere on the site at least 50 times. *sigh
    Better get started.

Maybe we can start a thread and have a nice chat. I'm a member too but don't post...that site is really overwhelming.

You can buy without having 50 posts (don't know if you can comment in the for sale topic but you can PM the seller at least). 50 posts is only needed to be able to sell.

Also, I would definitely pickup a $32 hammock + suspension (maybe $20 in materials) from DutchWare, and use a pad in the hammock – just so that you can make sure hammock camping is for you before you before dropping hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a thruhike worthy setup (hammock camping is simply not for everyone by a long shot).

    Sounds great!

Now the system has locked me out for forgetting my password and then still saying the password is wrong when I reset the whole thing and use their provided password. Our thread will have to wait until they help me out.

LaLuna, since you're not starting for at least 4 months, I think you can relax a bit. Given that you dont have it dialed in enough to ask for specific requirements, I think you must have tons of questions stored up, and those 50 posts should come fast. Patience Grasshopper, you'll get there. Good luck on your thru hike.

    Absolutely beautiful point.
I do have a long way to go and I have always been an intense planner. One of the things I am hoping to learn on this hike is patience as well as letting go of control. Thank you, scrabbler.

Laguna, have you ever use a hammock for camping or will that be a new experience to you?

It is ok; I kinda like Laguna too.

I have done over night camping before but this is a first with a hammock.

Not sure if it would be to late into your planning, but I think in January there is going to be a gathering in Ocala for hammock hangers. A lot of times people will have hammocks for others to try out.. That way you would know what it's like to sleep in a hammock before you buy one.

I've got a double layer blackbird traveler with whoppie slings and an asym tarp I'd sell cheap. I've got straps, biners, everything you'd need to hang. Only downside to this set up is that it doesn't have a bug net. When I use it in buggy season I wear a headnet to bed, would recommend getting a fronkey style net.
