Default Day hike on AT near I-40

Any good recommendations for a winter day hike near the I-40 crossing? I'm going on a road trip and will have a day to play with, so I thought I'd sneak in some AT miles I thought about just parking off Waterville Road and doing an out-and-back from there, but would it be worth it to head somewhere else for a section with better views/more fun/etc.? I'm eyeing Max Patch as a possibility and would love recommendations. I'm looking to hike for probably 4-6 hours as long as it isn't too cold.
