Default Are you going to try to thru-hike the A.T. in 2016? If so...

Please help with this research study about A.T. thru-hiking for my Sport Psychology Ph.d program.

BEFORE you start your thru-hike, please take the survey at this link:

    http://listenagain.stir.ac.uk/media/...rvey_2016.html

I’d then send you another survey to be taken after you stop hiking.

Those who participate in this study will be able to receive a summary of the study’s results. It should be interesting. Plus, this may help others with their A.T.thru-hikes.

    Thank you!

Good luck with your study, I just wish people in the future would put something about "Help me with a Study" in the subject line. I hate being measured and studied myself.

Are you interested in thruhikers on other trails?

I'm doing Ontario's Bruce Trail in May. 900km (only!)

I love being a research participant.

As a Ph.D in clinical psychology who has hiked the entire AT I can tell you that we are all severely impaired. No need to find out any more than that. Best of luck with the research.

As a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology I concur. We're all bonkers.

I chickened out and closed the page when I was asked to disclose my age, sex, start date, and how much cash I'd saved. Hopefully souls braver than myself give you the data you're looking for!

Hello, TheOneGuy -- I can see how those questions might be cause of concern in an online environment. You're definitely welcome to contact the University of Stirling for confirmation that this is a legitimate research study, rather than a plot to defraud--I'm re-posting the contact info below In designing this study, I had to make sure the results I find are due to psychological factors, rather than non-psychological factors. For example, some people may quit their thru-hikes because they ran out of money, whereas I'd need to know the psychological factors related to budgeting decisions, if that makes sense. Regardless, the questions about budget were optional because that can definitely be personal, and participants' info is confidential. I only present results as a big collective "average", rather than any one person's personal info...Thank you for letting me know your concerns, and may your thru-hike be an incredible experience! -- Vista Beasley

P.S. I'm actually an American, but my professor who was the editor of a top journal in our field took a position in Scotland, so I followed him here to continue my Ph.d studies with him. Just FYI in case my location in Scotland made you even more wary of potential fraud.
