We took a roadtrip to the Poconos to explore some new places. Over the last several years, new preserves and easements have greatly expanded across the Poconos, creating many new hiking opportunities. The first stop was Mt. Wismer, with 30 mile views. It overlooked a pond and rolling foothills. We could see the ski slopes on Camelback Mountain. The view was expansive, from New Jersey Kittatinny Mountain to PA's Blue Mtn. Most unique was a view through the Delaware Water Gap.
Next we visited popular Child's Park to see the reconstructed trails. This short hike features three beautiful falls and a gorge, with old growth hemlocks and pine.
We then went to Long Swamp owned by a YMCA camp, but open to the public. The most scenic part of the trail was a long boardwalk across the moss and spruce bog; it was very scenic and beautiful with diverse plantlife in the summer.
