Default Wonderland Trail -- no reservations for 2016!!

The National Park Service announced today that it will not be accepting advance reservations for the Wonderland Trail in 2016. All permits will be issued on a "first come" basis.

This could actually be an improvement. If nothing else, no show reservation holders will be eliminated.
I wonder if the folks to the south are paying attention?
The Wonderland Trail just moved up several notches on my list.

Wayne, don't get too upset about it. The NPS at Mt Rainier has been discussing the online reservation system for years. About 4 years ago they actually issued an RFP (Request For Proposal). The RFP said that Service Disabled Veterans would be preferred. I was doing the preliminary work to bid the job, but it was pulled back by the NPS for lack of funding. I will be surprised if it is up an running for 2017.

What I do not get is why this wasn't revealed earlier, at least before they were supposed to take reservations. And why no public comment period? They must have known of the situation for some time. I've worked for NPS and seen some odd things, but not on this scale.
