I just arrived at the Delaware water Gap, 23 days since leaving Harpers Ferry on April 17th. My sister happens to live near-by so I am zeroing at her house. Nearly 2 weeks of cold, wet early spring like weather hampered progress and made the PA rocks even more treacherous then usual. Hiking had to be slow and careful under those conditions and still beat me up quite a bit.
As far as I can tell, I'm one of the few of the Sunday April 17th Flip Floppers to make it this far. We were a group of four until a few days ago, when one had to speed ahead to try and do 160 miles in 12 days to meet his girlfriend, one suddenly developed knee problems yesterday and the third continued onto NJ today as I'm visiting my sister for a day and a half.
I hope there are still many more flip floppers still stumbling up the trail as I'll need a new group to hike with now that my PA family has broken up. We've seen maybe a dozen early thru hikers pass us during the last month, most started late February.
All in all, I'm just glad I managed to make it through PA and will be happy to see it in my rear view mirror
