    Default Cut Weight

Leaving August 4th to hike Katahdin to NY and trying to reduce weight as much as possible. Being from Wyoming, I always carry long underwear. Hiking pants, rain pants and long underwear bottoms too much for this hike? Maine to NY, August and September. Thanks!

Sounds right. Maybe leave the rain pants behind. I never use mine in the Summer/fall.

You'll get other valid opinions, but I would only have one layer of fabric on my legs--either running shorts and long underwear or long trousers, which I prefer. I did not carry any rain pants during the summer months on my AT thru hike. Packed and worn clothing is a very personal choice, and often one area where people really over-pack. It's easy to mail extra clothing home along the way.
