Very sorry to hear this. I dropped in on Bill in 2013, following his signs from the trail, not knowing what to expect. I found a true gem of a man who took time to chat over coffee. He had just sold his house in Cambridge live in Lyme full-time, in what had been his vacation house. Might have known he was a retired shrink -- bet he was a good one. Like a guru, he drew out what it was I feared on the trail (falling), explored my precautions, and assured me that I'd be fine. Then he gave me the weather forecast and some route advice, and I was off. I had vague hopes of seeing him again, but now...
Condolences to his children and grandchildren.
Show appreciation for the trail angels. They're too soon gone.
