We're hiking Monson to Gorham this coming July and were planning on staying at Shaw's. Guess we might have to modify those plans ...

If i wasn't $100,000+ in debt I would consider it, sight unseen.

According to a Monson resident yesterday the Lake Shore House laundramat/lodging has been changed hands. It will be open to hikers and others this season. I was told that kayaking is also available.

The owners are Jeff and Rebekah Santagata. Tel 207-997-7069 or

    Default Someone is buying Shaws

Shaws is listed as "Sale Pending" on the Century 21 site. That typically means that they are sorting out the legal details and scheduling a closing date with realtors and bank. It'll be a shame if Shaw's goes to someone who doesn't care about the Trail and hikers, but then Keith Jr. has to do what is best for his family.

The new owners are from Monson, and are planning on running it as an AT Hostel, pretty much the same as Pat and Keith Jr did last year. Details regarding fees, shuttles, meals, and mail-drops are tba.
