It should be noted that three out of seventeen of the participants died due to alcohol related illnesses. Not suprising considering they were probably drinking close to three bottles of cheap wine each.

Personally, I want to be on the beer plan. Maybe they'll offer up pints of Guinness.

Three of the 17 participants died during the program, succumbing to alcohol-related illnesses ...

... cost of around C$771 ($660) a month was partially offset by monthly savings of C$96 a month in emergency services, C$150 in hospital care and C$201 in police services per person
    .
Well, that's one way to save money. Give alcoholics a bunch of booze and let them die off so you don't have to feed, clothe and care for them any longer.

Using this logic, one could make the case that cigarettes should be made available to the American public for free in order to save Social Security. The more people that die early due to lung cancer, the less SS has to pay out, and the longer it can stay viable.

My wife gives money to homeless people (beggars).
I tell her if she really wants to make them happy she should give them a six pack of cheap beer and a pack of cigarettes
    a few hours of bliss.

    Thumbs up A new trail?

With free booze I suppose we will now get a blue blaze side trail from the AT to Toronto. Instead of the International AT it can become the "Gallo/ Thunderbird Trail".

You know they wouldnt spring for the good stuff. I can see them now distributing the endless cans of PBR.

Or even worse... Does anybody remember the yellow cost cutter stuff you could get at Kroger. I remember one time seeing a yellow can with the cost cutter logo on it. Printed in plain black block text across the can "BEER". Mmmmm, now thats the good stuff.

I might go for that program if they provided a good Hefeweizen.

According to most statistics, cigarette companies make 15-17 cents per pack proffit on the sales of their product. Here is a link to a table showing per state taxes on a pack of cigarettes. http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/rate/cigarett.html
Only 4 states tax less than the cigarette companies make on a pack. Tax rates range from .03 to 2.40 per pack. The last thing our loving federal govt. wants is to give cigarettes away for free. If anything, the next time there is a class action lawsuit against the cigarette companies, the states should be held with the cigarette companies in the litigation since they make more money than the tobacco companies do off of their product.

And you wonder why the tribes are able to sell cigarrettes online...

guinness is the total package. dinner in a bottle. all the essential vitamins and nutrients and a s*** load of calories too. why is it though that the draft in the bottle or the can absolutely will not get you as lit as the good ole extra stout?
