We did the complete BMT-AT loop in 2010 and used this set of navigational aids:
1. Sgt Rock's Guidebook (http://bmtguide.com/)
2. National Geographic #781 Cherokee National Forest Map
3. Great Smoky Mountains $1 Trail Map
4. Compass
Sgt Rock's is IMHO the 'best' guide book.
Our journal for the hike can be found here: http://trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=317704
Thanks I was looking at Sgt Rocks guide, are the maps on the BMTA store any good?
Anybody know where SGT Rock's been lately?
The GA section has many road crossings and road walks and the biggest challenge is finding where to exit the road back onto the trail.
Traveling sobo, I found the section between Boardtown Rd and Hwy 76 very confusing and had to use GPS (to see where the trail was in relation to the roads) and this pdf.
