The shelter near Little Caney (slept there as a wee scout) had to be removed when the area was designated as a wilderness area. It now resides on the CST. Yet there are 6 different campsites and separate fire rings at each site.
Does not sound very wilderness to me.

This is not a good weekend to be hiking the southern 100 miles of the Pinhoti.
    1) It's bone dry.
    2) There is a large forest fire burning from Adams Gap to the Clairmont area.
    3) This is the weekend of the Pinhoti 100, an ultra marathon that will run from Heflin to Sylacauga via mostly the Pinhoti. Unless you want a lot of company and love the smell of a forest fire this trail is not the place to be this weekend.

FYI...I'll be near Hubbard Creek doing the runner version of trail magic. 234 runners.
