Default Random: Would cuffs on the bottom of pants be bad for long distance hiking?

Would dirt collect and would rolled cuffs catch stuff?

Very bad, all sort of debris and little stones will collect and you'll lose this randomly in the shelter.

Insects can find their way into cuffs as well as teeny bits of forest floor litter. If it does not fall out randomly in the shelter, you'll lose it randomly in a tent or worse, an open sleeping bag.

Terrible. Think about all of the extra grams that you would be carrying.

When I was a small child we all wore jeans with cuffs. We collected all kinds of debris. Bad idea.

Back when I wore pants with cuffs, I managed to catch my heel in the cuff and fell as I was going down some stairs. Not something to risk when hiking.

It should also be. It's that cuffing ones pants can lead to the promotion and transportation of invasive spices.

OMG the chafe after the hike would be un"bear"able you would need a specialist prior to walking again - you will need a temporary handicapped placard to park in the right spot as you run into Ben & Jerry's and Starbucks. Try to avoid on-line outrage and Sar-castic humor.
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

Sounds like unnecessary extra material and weight (albeit small amount of weight) serving no purpose. As others have stated there are also the practical drawbacks of having cuffs such as possible chafing, bugs, debris, and general annoyance.

A lot of us go to the opposite extreme and wear gaiters.

Maybe it could catch some change or a contact lens. Never know it deffinlty could happen.
Hiking the AT is “pointless.” What life is not “pointless”? Is it not pointless to work paycheck to paycheck just to conform?.....I want to make my life less ordinary. AWOL

Saw one guy with cuffs on the AT, but he was getting into the back of a police car.

A JoS A Bank website has this to say about cuffs: "...Shorter men should stay away from cuffs unless they are wearing pleated pants. No-cuff pants elongate the legs, giving the illusion of a taller and leaner frame."

When in dire circumstances I will be sure to seek this invaluable information for guidance.

Cuffed pants clearly have too much material! Cut off that extra weight!

Maybe easier to cut off the extra material and re-hem them.
