The Smokies? Fontana to Davenport Gap? That's about a week, and a nice part of the Trail.

any reason you just want to stay in NC? Ever think of something like the start in Springer (Ga) and going to the NOC/Wesser are in NC?

I assume there are some logistics involved. I hope to do the section I mentioned above just as soon as I can tolerate the temperatures.

depending on what you want to do, you could start at Dicks Creek Gap in Ga, and then end you hike at either the NOC, Fontana, or Newfound Gap. It all depends on the miles you want to put in each day.

Actually, Newfound Gap would really be pushing it. Fontana might be the most you'd want to try for in one week.

Another mighty fine trip would be Erwin to Hampton, TN. If you have very good trail legs, you might be able to make Damascus, but I'd personally like to spend more time on the balds north of Erwin.

Davenport to hotspings althogh its only about a 2-3 day hike. I really liked Max Patch its a cool place it pitch the tent and watch the sun set and rise, wide open views.

This might be under a week if you're hiking pretty briskly, but consider the Bartram Trail/AT loop between Wayah Bald and Cheoah Balds. The Bartram has sections near Nantahala Lake, a fairly substantial riverside walk along the Nantahala, great views of the gorge, and what's possibly the most spectacular section of trail for its length in the south where the trail climbs from the river up the wall of the gorge following Ledbetter Creek. The AT section, of course, is beautiful, with great views on Cheoah and Wayah Balds and the rugged descent and climb into and out of the gorge, and a stop in Wesser at the NOC. I may be mistaken, but I think it's around 50-55 miles. One of my favorites.

You can't beat the Roane Highlands for continuous views. If you are travelling aways and want a hike to remember, this area would be your best bet.
