My journey begins after my current project completes. End of February beginning of March. See ya soon
I'm planning to start on March 11, 2018. I'm going NOBO but starting at Davenport Gap at the northern boundary of the GSMNP. I'll hike for around 6 weeks and then, when the number of Springer starters has thinned out a bit, I'll hop down to GA and hike thru the GSMNP. Then I'll hop over to when I had left off and walk to Katahdin. That's the plan anyway. I want to go NOBO but don't want to be competing too much for food and hostel vacancies.
I'm planning on bring my hammock and tarp/tent setup.....
Im doing it alone from nobo April... that's the plan!
I'm coming from the UK and ive just sorting out my passport,, next the visa... then flights.... and then.....and then....and then WALK.
theres going to be a lot of winging it...lol I hate planning..
Starting March 1st @ Springer Mtn.
My wife and I will be going NOBO together mid-March. We live in Mooresville, NC (North of Charlotte) and are wigging out over the planning stage right now. Feels like there is always something else we didn't consider. Would love to find other thru hikers in the area to talk gear and prep with, maybe meet for a meal or coffee to encourage each other North!
The ATC has the 2018 Registration Graph Up. Even though it’s early, it is interesting to see start numbers per day. Here is a link if interested:

I'm planning on starting with a friend of mine around April 1st or 15th. Have hiked a total of about 500 miles total in stretches of 20-90 miles at a time. Thinking about starting at Springer, but leaving options open to miss the massive crowds. I'm social enough, enjoy people, but not really into big crowds on the trail. Won't be looking to drink or party either. And my one little quirk is that I don't like to be around cigarette smoke, so will be prepared to tent whenever necessary, but hope others are courteous also. If there are others watching this thread from Ohio who would like to get together with my friend and me, I would be interested, for comparing notes on preparation, etc.
I am flying in to Atlanta from Toronto on April 8th, looking to start the trail Monday April 9th from Amicalola. This will be my first overnight, first solo trip, first everything...I'm quite nervous. Not much of a crowds person but wouldn't mind starting out with a few people until I get my trail legs.
